In 2008, the movie Iron Man marked both the launch of the new and improved Marvel Studios, and the return of Robert Downey Jr. to blockbuster cinema. The film turned out to be a huge hit, yet some changes were made in preparation for the sequel. Actor Terrence Howard, who played the part of James Rhodes, was asked not to return for Iron Man 2.
Though the reasons for Howard’s departure remain unknown, rumors suggest that director Jon Favreau wasn’t happy with his inability to act properly opposite Downey, who improvises a lot on set. Don Cheadle was the actor chosen to replace Howard, and unlike similar instances, fans were excited and extremely happy about Cheadle’s casting.
