The Star Wars character of Emperor Palpatine first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, voiced by Clive Revill and portrayed by Elaine Barker, wife of Star Wars makeup artist Rick Baker. In Return of the Jedi and some of the other episodes, the character was played by actor Ian McDiarmid.
The Scottish actor told the BBC in 2017 that he doesn’t’ want anyone else to play the character, so don’t plan on him being recast anytime soon.
