Kirstie Alley made her cinematic debut playing Lieutenant Saavik in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, one of the most important films in sci-fi history. She captured the hearts of Star Trek fans around the world, but when the offer to reprise her role in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Alley declined it.
An official reason for her departure from the franchise was never released, but unconfirmed rumors suggest that she was afraid of being typecast. She was replaced by Robin Curtis, who played the character in the third and fourth Star Trek movies.
