Few people know that before the smash-hit thriller Silence of the Lambs received the Oscar for Best Picture in 1991, there was, in fact, a prequel called Manhunter featuring character Hannibal Lecter but with a different actor.
Both 1986’s Manhunter and 1991’s Silence of the Lambs are based on the novels by crime author Thomas Harris. However, after Brian Cox failed to light up the screen with his performance of the deranged cannibal, Anthony Hopkins took over and eventually went on to gain the Best Actor Award. A successful recast to say the least.
