The singer’s albums have never been poorly critiqued, but 2015’s “Storyteller” was her best one yet, receiving a score of 74 on Metacritic. Why was it so successful? Underwood wanted it to be cohesive, so she worked a narrative into the music in the hopes it would tell a story. Her vision was for “Storyteller” to flow like a book, with each song acting as a chapter. The album also features writing collaborations with Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano, the people responsible for most of Underwood’s biggest hits.
