“Some Hearts” was an immense success, but it didn’t feature any songs written by Underwood herself. That changed with her sophomore effort, “Carnival Ride,” for which she co-wrote a total of four songs. As she’s progressed through her career, Underwood has grown gradually more confident in her abilities outside of singing. Each new album is a little more personal as it features greater creative control by Underwood, just as they should. Carrie now gets the final say on almost every decision around her music, from artwork to videos.
