If Lieutenant Commander Bortus, played by Peter Macon, looks a bit different from most of the USS Orville, that could be because he is from Moclus, a male-dominated planet where the main industry is weapons manufacturing. Bortus is married to Klyden, with whom he lays an egg and incubates in order to create their child.
When the egg hatches, the parents are shocked to see that their baby is a girl. Fearing for what would happen if their home planet found out about the rare female hatching, they undergo an operation to change their infant to a male, and name him Toga.
