Creator Seth MacFarlane stars as the show’s lead, Captain Ed Mercer, the commander of the USS Orville spaceship. Mercer is a successful officer of the Planetary Union, until he finds out of his wife’s infidelity, that is.
Following a messy divorce, Mercer becomes lax on his duties and his career faces a downfall. Luckily, he is given another chance when he’s informed that a mid-level exploratory ship, the Orville, needs a new commanding officer.
