Penny Johnson Jerald’s role on The Orville isn’t the first time she has starred in a sci-fi series. Back in 1999 Jerald played a character named Kasidy Yates in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, following a guest role in the earlier Star Trek: The Next Generation.
In more recent years, Jerald has had roles in series like 24 – where she played Sherry Palmer, and Castle, where she starred as Captain Victoria Gates. She also voiced Sarafina, Nala’s mom, in the 2019 remake of The Lion King.
