Katey Sagal was more than familiar with the sitcom game when the offer for 8 Simple Rules came around. Between 1987 to 1997, she’d played Peg Bundy on the sitcom Married… with Children, giving her a decades worth of experience in the genre. The show generated a lot of controversy, but was one of the most successful sitcoms to air on American TV.
Combine that with Sagal’s appearances in other sitcoms like That ‘70s Show, Imagine That, and Tucker, and she was clearly the perfect person to play Cate. Of course, Sagal has appeared in other types of shows over the years. After 8 Simple Rules ended, she had a leading role on crime series Sons of Anarchy, and made recurring appearances on the rom-com A to Z and dramedy Shameless. She also played Kaley Cuoco’s mother for a second time on an episode of The Big Bang Theory.
