Every sitcom needs its nosey neighbor. That’s how we came to be introduced to iconic characters like Steve Urkel from Family Matters. In 8 Simple Rules, Fred Doyle was the Hennessy’s neighbor, and he was as persistent as you’d expect.
Although well-meaning and incredibly friendly, the family couldn’t help but get frustrated by him popping up all the time. However, they appreciated the sympathy he offered after the Hennessys learned of Paul’s unexpected passing. That episode in season two marked the last appearance of John Ratzenberger’s character in the show.
