The best Rick and Morty quotes on the show

Don’t let the brightly animated show fool you, Rick and Morty is pretty dark. Rick is the smartest person in the galaxy, at least in his dimension, there are a bunch of other dimensions with equally as intelligent Ricks wandering around. Rick and Morty is the animated show created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland and its three seasons have been broadcast on the Cartoon Network’s late-night vehicle, Adult Swim. The show brings creativity and originality to the animated comedy genre, and since it first aired in 2013, it has gathered millions of fans across the world. Do you catch yourself quoting Rick while in conversation? Check out our pick of the best quotes from the show.

‘Weddings are basically funerals with cake’

Rick is a bitter man there’s no denying it, and his failed marriage to Beth’s mom is something he hasn’t quite come to terms with. Rick has lost faith in love, and openly shuns it to anybody that will listen to him. When invited to a wedding he comes out with the line, “weddings are basically funerals with cake.” He clearly sees getting married at the end of your life, but hey, at least you get to eat cake at the same time!

‘Wubba lubba dub dub’

You can’t have the best quotes of Rick and Morty without Rick’s catchphrase. Anytime he makes a joke he’ll deliver the punchline followed by “wubba lubba dub dub.” He shouts it after terrifying Morty, putting the Devil out of business, and after he wrecks the family home. On one occasion Rick’s friend, Bird Person, explains what wubba lubba dub dub means in his native language, it means “I am in great pain, please help me.” Bird Person explains that the reason why Rick does all of the crazy things he does is because he is always in pain and is trying to numb that feeling through the stunts he performs.

‘I’m sorry, but your opinion means very little to me’

This quote basically sums Rick up. He knows he is the smartest person in the universe and doesn’t respect the opinions of anybody else. What’s worse is that it is directed at his granddaughter. Most grandfathers would support their grandchildren, but not Rick, he likes to put them down at any and every opportunity he gets.

‘I turned myself into a pickle. I’m Pickle Rick!’

If you thought a character turning himself into a pickle would be a terrible episode of any TV show, you’d probably be right, but that wasn’t the case in Rick and Morty. We begin the episode with a pickle lying on Rick’s workbench that can talk. As we zoom in, we realize it’s Rick, who says “I turned myself into a pickle. I’m, Pickle Rick!” Rick did it to challenge himself and soon ends up in a deadly battle against rats, before he manages to upgrade himself into some kind of superhero pickle who takes down a mob boss and his henchmen. The quote has become so popular among Rick and Morty fans that it is emblazoned on lots of merchandise from the show, from mugs, to button pins, to t-shirts, it’s everywhere!

Rick and Morty has become one of the most popular animated shows in the world. Where once animated shows were family friendly, thanks to shows like Family Guy they have taken on a more adult theme. Rick and Morty is full of darkly comic quotes that just keeps fans coming back for more. It was recently announced that Rick and Morty has been renewed for 70 more episodes, meaning there are plenty of new quotes coming to fans in the near future.
