Ed Sheeran’s cameo appearances on television

Seemingly not content with being the biggest recording artist on the plant, Ed Sheeran has also branched out to the arena of the big and small screen. He’s not the first musician to enjoy cameos in movies and TV shows, and we’re sure he won’t be the last. However, there’s something about Ed that is just so lovable that we can’t help but root for him. And, even when a cameo appearance is super cheesy, we still kinda dig it.

If there’s one thing that’s clear about Ed Sheeran, it’s that he’s a top guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously. That’s probably why he decided to make these great cameos and expand his skillset slightly. Whatever you think about them, at least Ed is branching out and trying new things. We’re going to take a look at some of his best and most memorable cameo appearances of the singing superstar.

Game of Thrones

Those Game of Thrones fans out there might remember the Season 7 premiere that aired earlier this year, and featured a cameo from our Ed! The appearance met with a big backlash from some fans, but we didn’t think Ed was too bad. He had quite a bit to do; he sang a folk song, and also had a bit of dialogue. As someone who isn’t a natural actor, we feel like Sheeran does okay here. Sure, it might look a little weird to see Ed Sheeran in an episode of Game of Thrones, but there have definitely been worse cameos.

Bridget Jones’s Baby

The third installment of the Bridget Jones franchise got its release last year and saw everyone’s favorite spinster finally settle down and have a kid. The movie also featured a cameo appearance from young Mr. Sheeran. Ed plays himself here, so the acting part is kinda negligible. He tips a drink to Bridget at a bar and takes a photo of her and her friend (they awkwardly don’t know who he is) before his set at a music festival (a fictionalized Glastonbury). It’s a fun little appearance, and Sheeran seemed to enjoy being involved in the movie.

Shortland Street

Can you think of many other pop stars who would go to New Zealand to promote their album, and wind up on a New Zealand soap?! Well, that’s exactly what happened when Ed went out there and found himself enjoying a cameo role on the soap Shortland Street. He has a 20-second scene with a character, and actually has a bit of dialogue here too. It doesn’t really add much to the episode, but it’s definitely fun for fans of the soap and the singer.

Home and Away

Sheeran must have a thing for appearing in Southern Hemisphere soaps because a year later he enjoyed a cameo on Aussie soap Home and Away as well. While touring Australia in 2015, Sheeran became the first non-Australian celebrity to make an appearance on the program. He plays himself as a childhood friend of Marilyn Chambers, who returns as a massive global star.

Ed Sheeran has made several cameo appearances in movies and TV shows, and we feel these rate as some of the best. While we probably shouldn’t expect a transition into a Hollywood career anytime soon, it’s clear that Sheeran does have a love of acting and performing, and we could well see a few more cameo appearances before long.
