The definitive ranking of all Star Wars movies, Solo included

If you’re a fan of the massive sci-fi franchise, Star Wars, then there is a good chance you already have your very own favorite movie. However, since the first ever Star Wars was released in 1977, fans have often disputed which is the very best. There have now been ten Star Wars movies, not including animated movies or TV films, which makes it the best time to start ranking them all. Of course, not everyone is going to agree, but here’s our very own ranking of the Star Wars movies – including Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Phantom Menace

Sorry, it has to be done. This is right at the bottom of the pile for us, and you can think the highly irritating Jar Jar Binks for that. The only redeeming factor of The Phantom Menace is Darth Maul; an epic villain who definitely doesn’t get enough credit. However, Jar Jar Binks counteracts all of the coolness of Darth Maul. Sorry!

Attack of the Clones

If you like high school drama rom-coms, then you’ll probably love Attack of the Clones. The only reason Attack of the Clones isn’t right at the bottom of the list is because there is far less Jar Jar Binks in this one. Everything about this Star Wars movie just feels a little bit… Teenage romance. It makes number nine on our list.

Return of the Jedi

If you like your Star Wars movies to be filled with merchandising opportunities, then Return of the Jedi is probably a lot higher on your list. However, the cuddly Ewoks did nothing for us, and they land this flick at number eight on the pile. Fans might also find this movie to be a bit repetitive when it comes to the actual story… You mean there’s ANOTHER Death Star? Yawn.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

The newest of the Star Wars movies and the second of the anthology movies earns itself the number seven spot on our list. Critics certainly seem divided on the Han Solo story, but fans feel as though one of the franchise’s most exciting characters was done an injustice with this flick. It doesn’t really bring anything new to the table, so it’s low down on the list for us.

The Force Awakens

What?! You mean we put this below The Last Jedi? Sure, we’re going to get some stick for this, but hear us out. While J. J. Abrams had the difficult task of rebooting Star Wars, what happened was a bit same-y for us to truly enjoy the first installment in the sequel trilogy. It truly felt as though A New Hope had just been livened up with some new characters. However, it still managed to nab itself the sixth spot on our list – not all is lost.

The Last Jedi

We were torn about where to put this one, as it’s such a subversive movie. However, much of the story felt very similar to things we’d seen before – and let’s not get into those plot holes! What we can thank Rian Johnson for is creating something that broke the mold slightly. The story may have felt similar, but it certainly wasn’t the same.

Rogue One

Yet another movie with plot holes, but then we can overlook those simply due to the experience of the darker side of Star Wars. When we left the movie theater after this, we were pretty blown away. You almost forget that this sci-fi franchise is owned by Disney when you watch everyone you’ve grown to know and love get their lives taken from them. It was like Disney did Game of Thrones.

Revenge of the Sith

Finally, Hayden Christensen came into his own with Revenge of the Sith – so long rom-com acting! The prequel trilogy has never really been many fans’ favorite, but this movie managed to wrap it all up in quite a satisfying way. The rise of the Empire and Anakin’s betrayal, along with the destruction of the Jedi, make for quite a brutally brilliant movie.

A New Hope

The very first Star Wars movie was a sensation, and it is thoroughly deserving of its second place on our list. A New Hope (a title it wasn’t given until 1981) launched a sci-fi franchise that would truly stand the test of time. However, it doesn’t quite deserve the top spot on our list, which goes to…

Empire Strikes Back

Of course, it’s the ultimate fan favorite, and there’s a good reason for that. If you want a movie that puts you through every single emotion possible, then Empire Strikes Back doesn’t fail to deliver. Everyone who saw this movie could relate to at least one of the striking characters (pun intended), and who can forget the stunning final scene? It’s the winner in our books!

So, what do you think? Have we hit the nail on the head or is Phantom Menace you’re favorite? We won’t judge, promise…
