Captain Marvel just finished filming – here’s what you should know

We love a superhero as much as the next guy, and the next guy is flippin’ Stan Lee – so you can kinda tell that we love them. In fact, we’re obsessed! Over the past few decades or so, Hollywood has contracted Marvel fever. More and more people are getting to grips with the intricate storylines of this franchise, as well as the intermingling characters that always seem to meet up at some point or another. After all, it takes a certain type of person to save the world, so we guess they have a lot to talk about. In recent months, the talk of the Marvel town has definitely been Captain Marvel. This is especially true now that we know they’ve just finished filming…

What’s the movie about?

Like every single Marvel movie out there, Captain Marvel is about a superhero. I mean, it would be a pretty ropey superhero movie if there wasn’t someone with cool superpowers. Yet, this movie follows the life and times of Captain Marvel – also known as Carol Danvers. Captain Marvel has been a huge name within the Marvel comic book franchise for years, but only die-hard fans have been able to keep up with her exploits. Now we have a whole movie to obsess over! Showcasing the transformation and the experiences of Carol Dancers, this new film will show us just how she came to have superhuman strength, energy protection, and flight, and also showcase her talents in saving the world from the bad guys. As you do. While we do know that this movie will take place in the 1990s, we don’t know much else about who she will be battling or why. It’s a Marvel mystery, y’all.

Who is in it?

We’ve known for a while now that Brie Larson will be taking on the role of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, and that’s pretty brie-lliant (#sorrynotsorry). Brie Larson has actually been on the scene for a whopping two decades and has worked on major movies in the past. She has had credited roles in the likes of The Spectacular Now, Short Term 12, Kong: Skull Island, and The Glass Castle. This new role will be her first foray into the Marvel world, but we’re kind of excited for her. As if this casting wasn’t cool enough, Brie has also been joined on set by Samuel L. Jackson, who will be reprising his Marvel role as Nick Fury. The likes of Ben Mendelsohn, Gemma Chan, Clark Gregg and Jude Law will also make an appearance.

Why is it such a big deal?

One of the main reasons why Captain Marvel is such a big deal is because it’s Captain Marvel! For comic book buffs across the world, this superhero has been their own personal hero throughout their lives. She has been heavily featured in numerous Marvel comics and has had a huge impact on various storylines involving some of our favorite characters. She finally has the chance to come to life, and that’s pretty darn awesome. However, it’s also an exciting moment for women across the globe, because women have rarely been given a chance to lead their own superhero movie. It’s been a complete man-fest over the past few years, and we’re ready to give the ladies their chance to shine. Brie Larson seems like the perfect woman to be taking this role to a whole new level, and we hope this will spark a catalyst and allow more female superheroes the chance to have their own movies.

When will it be released?

Sadly, we still have a little while to wait for Captain Marvel to come back into our lives. At the moment, the scheduled release date is March 18, 2019, in the United States – so we hope you have something to pass the time until then. Want our advice? Read all of the comics!

Captain Marvel is one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of the decade, and you Marvel fanatics best be ready for this movie to blow your socks off…
