Famous cameos on Game of Thrones

Jon Snow was right, winter is coming. The days are getting shorter, the nights longer, and we are definitely seeing much colder temperatures. And we all thought he knew nothing! Game of Thrones may be off our screens for the time being, but that doesn’t mean we ever stop thinking about the show and how great it is. With the events of last season coming to light, it has given us even more fuel for the fire. Spoilers alert!

Are you mourning the death of Littlefinger as much as we are? No? Alright, fine, but there was still plenty of other great things that happened last season. We want to go back and watch the seasons again before the final one airs, but, in the meantime, we can settle for theorizing. And, in between theorizing, we thought we’d compile a list of our favorite famous cameos on Game of Thrones – here goes!

Ed Sheeran (Season 7 – Dragonstone)

Okay, we admit, it was a little cringeworthy to see Ed Sheeran without his guitar, dressed in medieval garb, and attempting to perform alongside an actor of Maisie Williams’ ability. But, there’s just something so lovable and inviting about that grin of his, that we can’t help but be drawn to Ed Sheeran. This might have been cheesy, and it might have been met with more than a little bit of scorn, but we actually didn’t mind this recent season 7 cameo.

Famous cameos on Game of Thrones

Gary Lightbody (Season 3 – The Bear and the Maiden Fair)

Lightbody is best-known as the lead singer of band Snow Patrol who enjoyed a massive global hit with the song Chasing Cars. A few years later, he cameoed in this memorable season 3 episode as one of the men on horseback who accompanies Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth as prisoners. It’s certainly a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo, and one of the less recognizable ones, but we feel that works well in its favor.

Will Champion (Season 3 – The Rains of Castamere)

Perhaps the most iconic episode of the entire show featured the now-infamous Red Wedding and the betrayal and slaughter of House Stark. And, those more eagle-eyed viewers may well have spotted Coldplay drummer Will Champion as part of the wedding band who play the song Rains of Castamere. While more accustomed to making multi-platinum selling records, Will most certainly had a ball with his cameo, especially as it came in such an iconic episode.

Sigur Ros (Season 4 –  The Lion and the Rose)

Icelandic electro-rock band Sigur Ros had a cameo at another type of wedding, this time it was the wedding of King Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell. They too perform an instrumental rendition of Rains of Castamere that is cut short by the wicked King. The band said they loved the experience, and would certainly do it again. Those unfamiliar with the band would not have spotted them, but fans will have instantly recognized them.

Famous cameos on Game of Thrones

These are just a few of our favorite cameos on the show, as well as ones that we consider to be the most iconic. There are a few others we could mention as well, and we’re sure there will be at least one cameo in the final season. But, these are the cameos that we feel best gives us that wave of recognition without taking away from the show. We know you’re not going to agree with Ed Sheeran, but we love Ed so much!
