It is often said to get ahead in life it is not what you know but who you know, and in Hollywood’s bubble that is even more relevant. Luckily for the kids of cinema’s greatest directors, they have been given an easy pass onto the movie sets. There’s nothing wrong with getting a helping hand from your parents, we would be grateful for a film directing mother or father to give us a boost to stardom.
Christopher Nolan
Comic book adaptation The Dark Knight Trilogy is synonymous with director Christopher Nolan, the films are regarded by many as the best Batman movies of all time. Well, he is not the only Nolan to feature when the credits roll, that’s right, his son Rory appeared in The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan also cast his son Magnus in Inception and daughter Flora in Interstellar.
Clint Eastwood
Eastwood is Hollywood royalty, there’s no denying it. So it must help his children with their aspirations of becoming acting stars in their own rights when their hugely successful dad casts them into the spotlight in his own films. Daughter Kimber was cast as a White House tour guide in Absolute Power, and Kathryn Eastwood appears alongside half-sister Francesca in Jersey Boys. Gaining the most from his father’s exposure is Scott Eastwood, who had roles in Invictus, Flags of our Fathers and Gran Torino before starring in “Suicide Squad” without the aid of father Clint.
Ron Howard
Directing such hits as Apollo 13, The Da Vinci Code and upcoming release Solo: A Star Wars Story, Howard has an impressive resume in the filmmaking world. His famous daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard was given her start in the movie business in some of her dad’s films, namely – Parenthood, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and A Beautiful Mind. Bryce Dallas Howard can be seen in the mega-blockbusting dinosaur adventure, Jurassic World.
Judd Apatow
Bring your family to work day took on a whole new meaning when Judd Apatow cast his daughters and wife in This is 40. Daughters, Maude and Iris Apatow, played the roles of mischievous children of a father going through a midlife crisis and their very understanding mom was played by their real mother, Leslie Mann. Maude and Iris reprised their roles from gross-out comedy, Knocked-Up and appeared in Funny People, both Apatow films.
Alfred Hitchcock
Pioneering director Alfred Hitchcock was ahead of his peers regarding revolutionary filming techniques, but also in casting his child in his films. Daughter Patricia Hitchcock appears in all-time classics, Psycho, Strangers on a Train and Stage Fright. She forged a solid acting career with her father’s helping hand, managing to gain 18 acting credits in total.
Francis Ford Coppola
The Godfather trilogy remains many people’s all-time favorite movies, the director, Francis Ford Coppola will go down in history as one of the greatest directors of all time. Daughter Sofia Coppola made appearances in many of her father’s films, including The Godfather trilogy, Rumble Fish, and The Outsiders. Sofia Coppola went on to become a director herself, heading up the Oscar-winning Lost in Translation as well as The Bling Ring and Marie Antoinette.
