Go behind the scenes of Game of Thrones with “The Last Watch” documentary

If you haven’t already watched the entire eight seasons of Games of Thrones, we suggest you get cracking. There’s a reason the fantasy-drama has racked in a total of 47 Emmys since it started in 2011 – it’s totally incredible! But if you have already caught up on all the action of the Seven Kingdoms, then congratulations. You are officially a ‘Thronee’ like us.

We know what you’re thinking – now that the series has finally come to an end, what on earth can we watch now to make sure our GOT withdrawal symptoms are kept to a minimum? Well other than rewatching all 73 episodes again, which if you’re like us then you already have, there is an HBO documentary that takes you behind the scenes. It’s called ‘Game of Thrones: The Last Watch’. Here’s what you can expect.

What’s included?

There’s been a number of unofficial behind-the-scenes clips come our way over the years, but HBO promised that this two-hour long featurette will give you everything you need to know and everything you didn’t know you needed to know. Sounds promising, right?

‘The Last Watch’ has been directed by British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay who was granted exclusive access to the whole production of the final season. Imagine being that lucky! But she wasn’t just sitting around gawking (which we definitely would have), she instead made sure she gave us an up close and personal account on the blood, sweat and tears that went into making the fantasy world come to stunning life on our screens.

Along with her cameraman, Jeanie follows the entire cast and crew as they navigate their way through the making of the last six episodes. You’ll be a fly-on-the-wall, seeing what goes into making it happen through unseen clips and unprecedented footage of what actually goes on behind the cameras. There’s also incredibly emotional interviews with the cast and crew who are just as sad about it ending as we are.

HBO has also revealed that it is both funny and heartbreaking, so expect to laugh, cry and everything in between. One particular highlight is seeing the cast’s script read-through for the final episode, in which you’ll see Kit Harrington’s reaction to learning the fate of Jon and Daenerys. Get the tissues ready.

Is it worth a watch?

We all know by now that the Season 8 finale divided audiences, with most expressing their disappointment. If you’re one of these deeply saddened and frustrated fans, then you should definitely give this a watch as it’ll probably provide you with a much more satisfying ending to the franchise than the actual final episode did.

Expect to see just how hard it was to make it all happen and come together. Any TV is never an easy thing to shoot, but here in ‘The Last Watch’, you’ll learn just how intensely difficult it is to make such a beloved story come to life in the way they planned.

Not only will you see what the cast and crew experience on set, but you’ll get an insight into how the lives of both the production team and its stars have changed ever since the first episode in 2011. Being a part of probably the biggest TV show of all time is no easy road. It requires a lot of hard work. But ‘The Last Watch’ will show you that the hard-work is also totally worth it.
