The female superhero films that are coming to the big screen

When we say “superheroes,” most of us tend to think of men in weird ensembles fighting to save the world. Yes, the world of superheroes has generally been about the boys. However, the good news is that things are changing for the better, so forget about Superman or any other male superhero. As observed from the recent lineup of superhero movies, women are starting to take on a more central role in these tales of good vs. evil. Hollywood is finally realizing that it’s time for women to do things for themselves. In fact, we’ve got a few upcoming flicks that are all about the women. Here are a few examples.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

The X-Men series hasn’t done too well with prequels. Reception has been mixed at best. Aside from Days of Future Past and First Class, there really hasn’t been much to look forward to. However, that could all change with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. As can be deduced from the name, the story is about Jean Grey, or more so, about the cosmic entity that possesses her. Technically, that makes Jean Grey a supervillain here. But, it’s still Jean Grey, who is a part of the X-Men. Confusing, right? Anyway, you’ll have to wait until the movie comes out to draw your own conclusions. For now, let’s just call her a superhero. Oh, by the way, the movie comes out in early 2019.

Captain Marvel

If you saw the end credit scenes from Avengers: Infinity War, you probably already know who Captain Marvel is. It is believed that she might be the only answer to fixing the damage caused by the big bad man, Thanos. For that reason, we can understand why Fury pages her at the end. However, the upcoming movie about Captain Marvel will not pick up from where Infinity War left off. Rather, this will be a prequel of sorts explaining the origins of Captain Marvel. We don’t have much information about what to expect, except for the fact that we will see a younger Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Brie Larson will be playing Captain Marvel.

Fans are waiting impatiently for this movie to come out. It is a big deal considering that it is the first Marvel story on screen to have a female lead.

Black Widow

Black Widow is awesome and we can’t get enough of her, as Scarlett Johansson is simply perfect for that role. Even if you’re not a fan, you’re just too used to her being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to not know more about her. The good news is this brilliant character is finally getting her own origins story. We don’t have any details yet except for the fact that the film is just beginning production.

So while expectations are pretty high, we hope that the female superhero films that are coming to the big screen will be worth the wait, If you are anxious to see the new X-Men, Captain Marvel or Black Widow
